Japan Crop Protection Association(JCPA) is the non-profit organization of Japanese manufacturers, formulators and distributors of agricultural crop protection products. Representing more than 90 companies, JCPA members manufacture, sell and distribute 95% or more of such chemicals.

Harmonization of Pesticide Registration

The United States and Canada are engaged in an effort to harmonize procedures for pesticide registration. This harmonization initiative aims to enable the registration of selected crop protection products in both U.S. and Canadian markets.

Background

Some pesticide producers have participated in pilot programs to facilitate harmonization: one allows individual growers to import certain products into the United States for private use while the other attempts to create one label that meets the regulatory requirements for both countries.

  • Product labels issued jointly by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), give growers access to a wider range of products.
